Volunteers from St Thomas More, Vryheid Conference visit female inmates at Ncome Correctional Facility

While the Society of St Vincent de Paul is well-known for helping poor, hungry and homeless people, another important service that is often overlooked is our ministry to those serving time in prison.

This is one of the core good works, based on the traditional Catholic Church Corporal Works of Mercy:

  • Feed the hungry
  • Clothe the naked
  • Shelter the homeless
  • Visit the sick
  • Visit those in prison

On Wednesday 7 October, a team from St Thomas More, Vryheid Conference spent time with female prisoners at Ncome Prison. We appreciate the love and compassion they showed in interacting with the inmates.

Prison visits are arranged with correctional services authorities to ensure they are safe. Our goal is to bring comfort and hope, treating inmates with dignity and without judgment. We also offer prayer and spiritual counseling.
